可以給學生們講一些故事來激發孩子們的英語學習興趣。其中最有效的故事就叫做自然發音故事。這個自然發音故事很長，分為十三段，要用十三個課時的時間來講。
第一課時：短母音和輔音的故事。
在很久以前，有一個大家族叫字母，就是英文的文字，它們屬於拼音文字。它們的祖先在遙遠的古希臘，後來搬到了古羅馬，最後走出了古羅馬而奔向了世界，走遍了大半個地球。家族中共有26個成員，他們之間相親相愛，各司其職，一直相處得很開心。
這個大家族裡，有七個小家族，這七個小家族裡，有五個家族都有各自的家長，共有五位母親，這五位母親的名字分別是a、e、i、o、u，我們管它們叫做母音字母。
第一位母親是a，她的名字叫做/e/，她有三個孩子，分別叫做h、j、k。每個孩子的名字里都有母親的姓，/e/。來念一遍，/e/。在家裡，母親會叫三個孩子的小名，這三個孩子的小名，分別是/h/、/dʒ/、/k/。
第二位母親是e，她的名字叫/i/，她的孩子多，b、c、d、g、p、t、v、z，每個孩子的名字里都有母親的姓/i/，念一遍，/i/，在家裡，母親會叫孩子的小名，這幾個孩子的小名，叫做/b/、/k/、/d/、/g/、/p/、/t/、/v/、/z/。
當e背孩子的時候，就不能發出/i/的長音，而只能發出/ɛ/的聲音，比如：eff、ell、em、en、ess、ex。這就是六個孩子f、l、m、n、s、x的大名，而他們的小名則叫做/f/、/l/、/m/、/n/、/s/、/ks/。
第三位母親是i，名字是/aɪ/。念一下，讀成/aɪ/，是雙母音，她有一個女兒叫做y，有時母親i不在，y就會幫母親，它的小名叫做/j/。
第四位母親是o，名字就叫做/o/，她沒有孩子，特別喜歡娃娃們。
第五個母親是u，名字叫做/ju/，她有兩個孩子，叫做q和w，q總是黏著媽媽u，念成/kw/，w的小名則叫做/w/。
還有一個孩子r，它的名稱是r，常常出現在母音字母——母親的後面，這時它的發音就是捲舌音。捲舌音有捲舌長母音和弱捲舌母音之分。
當母親背著孩子的時候，母親就不能發出它的名字，只能發出它在單字里的聲音。我們一起來看一下，這五個母音字母在單字里發出的是什麼聲音：

三、弱母音的故事。
我們中國的語言——漢語、藏語、彝語等——都是單音節語言，一個字只有一個音節，但是英語不一樣，一個字可能有幾個音節，甚至是很多音節，這是因為英語是一種世界性語言，英語單字來源於世界各地。在多音節的單字里，當母親不是處在很重要的位置，被「打入冷宮」時，它們就變「懶」了，一律發成弱母音，比如說：

四、捲舌音的故事。

六、軟音和硬音
c、g這兩個孩子，它們跟著不同的母親時，會發出不同的聲音。它們在a、o、u前，分別發出k和g的聲音，像咳一樣，叫做硬音，但是它們在e、i和她的女兒y前面，就會發出s和j的聲音了，這個聲音叫做軟音。如：
