英国学生的独立生活能力也强于我国学生。不分担家务劳动的学生很少见，他们从小就帮助父母擦汽车、剪草坪。小学生打工的也很多，送报纸是最常见的了，钱虽然挣得不是很多，却拥有了面对社会、独立处理问题的机会。到了假期，加油站、快餐店、超市，到处都有中学生在忙着干活。一个假期下来，不但能挣几百英镑，更重要的是他们变得自信、老练。
英国学生的团队意识强。在英国，人们普遍推崇团队精神。团队精神是指一个人与大家协同工作的能力或态度，也就是我们所说的合作能力。英国学校历来都很重视对学生进行“团队精神”教育，在公共场所或集体活动中，个人必须服从大家。如果哪个学生为了自己出风头而连累了大家，他就会被一致斥为“没有团队精神”。
英国学生的身体素质好。体育不但是英国中学的重要课程，而且每天下午四点钟开始，大部分学生又都出现在运动场上。大量的体育锻炼，加上合理的充足营养，使英国学生大都身强力壮、精力充沛。那种肌肉发达、动作灵活的运动员型学生到处可见。就连女生对体育也十分热衷。体育好、学习好的学生才备受同学们的推崇。
英国学生的探究精神强。英国学生做事十分开放，敢想敢干，不受条条框框的束缚，他们认为“只要不被禁止，就可以做”。所以，成功的机会也相对较多。每个学生都有自己的思想和行动。他们不迷信课本、不迷信权威，也不像我国学生那么关注问题的答案、关注他人的看法。对问题不但有自己的见解，而且特别注重科学论证。注重在探究中寻找答案。
美国
美国的义务教育是六、二、四制，分十二级。一至六年级是小学(primary schoo1)阶段，七、八年级是初中(junior school)阶段，九至十二年级是高中(senior schoo1)阶段。美国各州有各州的教育制度及法律，但各州义务教育的基本原则却完全相同。
在小学，一个班大约有二十多个人。根据学生的实际状况，把学生分成几个小组，各组所使用的教科书及教学进度也不同。全年级虽然同时毕业，但各组所学的东西却不完全相同，一组所学的东西可能是另外一组的二至三倍。在初中，学生人数也在二十人左右。同一个班的学生只有上自习及导师课(tutorial class)时才在同一个教室，上其它课时因分组及选修课不同，铃声一响则各人找各人的教室。他们每个人都有自己的储藏柜(1ocker)，平时自己的衣物及书籍就锁在里面。
美国学生升入初中后才开始背书包。上小学时，他们的书籍完全放在学校里。小学的课程有阅读(reading)、算术(arithmetic)、语言(language)、科学(science)和社会科学(social sciences)。另外的音乐、美术和体育则只上课不考试，也不评分。小学成绩单上的评分仅用三个英文字母表示，一是G(好)，一是S(满意)，一是N(需要努力)。初中的课程是数学(mathematics)、英文、科学(为理化及自然等的综合课)、社会科学、法文(French)。另外的工业艺术、木工、军事、美术，每样仅修半学期，体育则不算分。初中成绩单用ABCDEFI七个字母表示。A是最好，F是最坏，I是半途而废。
美国学生的教室宽敞整洁，校舍占地大，教学设施齐全。美国的教学设施可能是世界第一。无论是在初中还是在小学，都设有室内运动场(indoor sportsground)。
美国儿童上学及放学都有校车(school bus)接送。
美国各级政府的支出占第一位的是教育费用(ecation cost)，其它支出都居次要地位，因此美国学生享受到的是最好的待遇。
