BNS inks IPTV contract with Multi Kontrol Nusantara for on-demand shopping platform
Asian IP solutions provider Broadband Network Systems (BNS) has signed a formal agreement with Indonesian telecoms provider PT Multi Kontrol Nusantara (MKN) to deploy a multimedia on-demand shopping platform on the Telco’s HD IPTV service platform. MKN provides next generation, IP-based carrier class network services throughout Indonesia. Offered under the banner BN Touch, the new service will be rolled out in the first half of the year, BNS said in a press release. MKN, which is part of the Indonesian conglomerate Bakrie Group, will offer BNS Touch through its subsidiary PT Graha Multimedia Nusantara (GMN), which operates a HD IPTV service platform that primarily targets high end residential complexes and multi dwelling units (MDU) in Jakarta and other affluent areas, the release read. Services included in the offer, which will be deployed on a fibre-optic Metro-E 10G-based platform, starting in Rasuna Epicentrum (the biggest superblock in Indonesia), will include convergent services such as multicast, video on demand (VoD), network PVR, time-shift-TV, telephony, internet and gaming. BNS Touch comprises a printed magazine with invisible dot codes and a wireless pen-like device, called ‘The Wiz’, that reads the codes and connects wirelessly to a TV set top box.
Telkon to purchase 12,000 towers from Indosat, paper says
Indonesia’s dominant telecoms group PT Telkom is reportedly concting e diligence on a plan to acquire 12,000 telecoms towers from rival operator PT Indosat, local newspaper Bisnis Indonesia quotes an unnamed source as saying. The deal could be worth up to IDR3 trillion (USD327 million) and if realized, the management of the towers would pass to Telkom subsidiary PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi, the source said.
Telkom picks TRG to deploy 802.16d WiMAX platform
PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) has selected PT Teknologi Riset Global (TRG), an affiliate of leading Indonesian infrastructure developer the Indonesian Tower Group, to supply it with a national 802.16d Wi-Max solution in the recently freed up 3.3GHz band. Telkom’s announcement follows a ministry decree calling on operators to migrate from the 3.5GHz to 3.3GHz band, while sticking with 802.16d accredited technology. The Telco says it has already deployed TRG’s Wi-Max solution in four regions: West Java, Jakarta, Sumatra Island and Kalimantan Island. TRG has been working with Canada’s Tranzeo Wireless Technologies Inc, which manufactures wireless broadband and Wi-Max communication systems from its base in British Columbia, to integrate Wi-Max equipment for Indonesian carriers with licensed spectrum at 2.3GHz and 3.3GHz, it said.
Telkomsel boss targets mobile broadband expansion
Indonesian mobile operator PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) is targeting growth in its mobile broadband user base this year to offset stagnating revenues from traditional voice telephony and SMS services. The company’s president Sarwoto Atmosutarno is quoted as saying that the firm expects data services to account for more than 10% of total revenues in 2010, up from 7% last year. He went on to say ‘We aim to keep increasing it in the coming years,’ the Jakarta Globe reports. Despite an increasingly saturated market, Sarwoto still sees opportunities for subscriber growth and is targeting 103 million users this year, up from the current figure of around 85 million. In order to reach its data revenue goals the company is investing IDR13 trillion (USD1.42 billion), of which 60% has been set aside for infrastructure development, including LTE and broadband wireless technology.
Telkom Indonesia inks deal with Level 3
US-based Level 3 Communications said last Thursday that it will provide high speed network services for Indonesian Telco PT Telkom Indonesia International, to connect that carrier's network to US internet traffic. Under the deal, Telkom International, a unit of PT Telkom, will use Level 3's landing station at the Asia America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable system. No financial details were disclosed.
